When it comes to can you gamble online legally, the answer is that it depends on your state. While federal law makes gambling legal on a national level, each state has the right to regulate online and in-person gambling. Some have completely legalized iGaming while others have restrictions in place. The majority of states, however, have made it legal to play casino games, sports betting and poker online.
Delaware was first to open the door for iGaming back in 2012. Governor Jack Markell launched the state’s three current online casinos a year later. The action in Delaware continues to grow, and the state’s online casino operators have partnered with 888 for player support, expert picks and live odds.
New York hasn’t yet made iGaming legal, but the state is considering it in 2023. As for North Carolina, they are just now allowing sports betting, but don’t expect to see any iGaming options in the Tar Heel State until at least next year.
As for other states, Michigan and Ohio have joined the club of legal iGaming states in 2021. Each of these three have partnered with the top sportsbooks in the industry to offer players a wide variety of games. They also have excellent customer service and generous bonuses for their players. The action in these two states is expected to continue to grow.
In the state of Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Wolf was a bit behind his Northeastern neighbors, but he did launch online casino play in October of 2017. The Keystone State’s iGaming sites are licensed and audited by the state’s Gaming Control Board. In addition to offering a full array of online slots, table games and poker, the casinos are required to have a live dealer on site for their table games.
Colorado, which legalized online gambling in 2020, is another great example of a state embracing the iGaming world. The state’s three licensed operators launched their sites in the wake of the Supreme Court decision that struck down a federal ban on single-game betting. The legal Colorado casinos have been vetted, and you can rest assured that each of the sites offers a safe, secure gaming environment.
As for the rest of the country, many states are on the verge of making online gambling legal. The only exceptions are Utah and Hawaii, where gambling is still illegal. While some people try to circumvent this by using payment processors that allow for interstate transactions, these loopholes are being shut down quickly. That’s why it’s important to know the laws in your own state before deciding to gamble. Otherwise, you could find yourself in trouble with the authorities. And that’s not something you want to deal with. This is why we recommend playing only at regulated and licensed sites. Those are the only ones that you can be sure will treat you with the respect you deserve as a valued player. It’s worth the extra effort to play at a site that puts its player first.
