The Mercedes CLR made the news for all the wrong reasons at Le Mans in 1999. The car was quick, sounded awesome, but a quirk of its aerodynamics caused it to literally take off if it suddenly lost downforce. This happened twice during the build up to the race, when it happened for a third time during the race itself they wisely decided to withdraw the remaining car. Amazingly no one was hurt in any of the incidents, and the car has gone down in history.
